What's New at MPS-NY:

20th Mother’s Day Extravaganza

It is my distinguished pleasure and honor to welcome everyone to our 20th Mother’s Day Extravaganza.

We are particularly proud of our honorees  this year.  They are people who have given extraordinary service to their communities, both abroad and at home.  To us, they are heros and heroines.  The island of Montserrat and elsewhere have been benefitted and become a better place, because of the giving, caring and sharing of themselves.  We have done our part by bringing them before you today, your part will be to meet and congratulate  them for what they have done and will continue to do for the betterment of humanity.

With us today is Mrs. Sarah Jane Elizabeth Romeo, known as Teacher Beth, an educator, humanitarian  and business woman who stands head and shoulders above many others.  Also here is Mr. John E. Wyke, known as Johnny Mecca, a business man who works tirelessly with all of the different organizations and associations in Montserrat and still finds the time to manage his business.  He is very humble, respectful,  generous and always has good words of cheer for all.  Sister Dorine S. O’Garro is the recipient of the Emily C Martinez Award for service to the Society.  She is a prolific writer and author of many books, especially on or about Montserrat. She is a woman who has never stopped giving and sharing of herself in the service to others.  We thank God for all the Honorees and their services to mankind.

This great organization, the Montserrat Progressive Society of New York has been a continuous working organization from its inception in 1914 until present.  In  three  years, we will celebrate our 100th birthday,  an outstanding achievement.  We  anticipate  that day with great excitement  and look forward for your participation in this historic event.  Thanks to the forerunners of this great Organization.

As Montserratians, regardless of age and economic circumstances we should all  play a significant part in the lives of our brothers and sisters at home in Montserrat. We should work together for the common good of the Society.  We must never forget from whence we came, because if we do, we tend to forget those we left behind.  Just remember the people who helped us along the way, and let us reach back and pull up a few with us too.  God has been good to us, let us share his goodness with the less fortunate.

To all the mothers and future mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. To our annual supporters, we thank you sincerely.  My sincere thanks to all the officers and members who have worked so hard to make this event a success. Special thanks to the fundraising committee: Vice President, Vera Weekes, Eileen Allen, Malika Sweeney-Barber, Maudelyn Johnson and Jennifer Cabey.  God’s richest blessings to all and we look forward to seeing you next year.
