Special Honoree: Basil Chambers

In the field of local broadcasting, Basil Chambers, has made a name for himself as one of Montserrat’s broadcasting icons. 
He is a highly driven senior announcer at ZJB Radio Montserrat, with over 23 years serving the people with ethical and responsible broadcasting. His effectiveness is due to the uniqueness of his broadcasting style, his lively wit and cheerful spirit and his commitment to integrity in his craft. His career began at Radio Antilles as a Sports Reporter in 1990. He has since worked at ZDK Radio, ABS Television and ABS Radio where he molded his skills into being one of the more successful Caribbean radio announcers.
 
He brings to his calling a lifelong interest in the arts as calypsonian, three-time Soca monarch, actor, stand-up comedian, sports (cricket) enthusiast and news reporter. He has hosted major regional shows such as the 50th Jaycees Caribbean Queen show in 2012 and the Antigua Calypso Monarch Finals in 2013. Basil has been the previous recipient of ZJB’s Employee of the Year Award and the Funky Man Award (2006). He was also presented with a Diaspora Award (2012) for motivating and inspiring listeners throughout the Diaspora; as well as for keeping them informed on events on Montserrat. His Festival seasonal change of name, the golden voice of “Krissmuss” (2013) resonates throughout the island, across the region and in the international arena as a voice to remember fondly. He is also fondly appreciated for his lively stage outfits and masquerade dancing during the Festival Season.
 
A family man at heart, he is devoted to his children and grateful to his beloved grandmother who raised him, as well as community role models like Nurse Joseph and Teacher Sarah Allen.
