MPS Open House 2011

On September 3, 2011, the Fundraising Committee held an Open House at the MPS Building.

The goal was have a get-together that included MPS’ members, friends of MPS, and potential new members.  It was geared towards getting the established members to rekindle an interest in the Society, as well as to help spark an interest in the Society from the younger generations.

We were able to meet and greet long-time members, new members, and well- wishers.  There were people from all five boroughs, plus from England, Georgia, Montserrat, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.  It was fun going around the rooms inquiring, ‘Wha’ part o’ Montserrat you’ family come from?’

The atmosphere was warm and pleasant; the attendees were happy to be there.  We talked, laughed, drank and ate.  There was plenty to eat and plenty to drink.

The Fundraising Committee donated the food and drinks, etc.  The volunteers and contributors, donated money, transportation, cooked or brought in other drinks.

We are looking forward to having this type of event again, perhaps at a time when there wouldn’t be so many other competing events in the city.

Special thank you to volunteers and contributors: Catherine Harney-Smith, Dr. Hector Lee, Rosaline Best, Bernadine Callender, Margaret Callender, Gabriel Davis, Shareka Scott, Joycelyn Rogers, Jahvene Greenaway, Cyril Cassell

Fundraising Committee: Vera Weekes, Mary Kirnon, Maudelyn Johnson, Malika Barber, Eileen Allen
