Report on the 21st Annual Mother’s Day Extravaganza Featured

At this year’s Celebration about 250 folks attended the event which was held for the first time at Eastwood Manor in the Bronx.

Our Honorees this year were Deputy Governor, Sarita Weekes-Francis, OBE, Mother of the Year, Rev Canon Franklin L Reid, Special Honorees and our Centenarian, Mrs. Margaret Greer. We are so grateful to Ms Weekes-Francis, OBE (Deaconess) for her unselfish, devoted and committed public service, especially during the volcanic crisis and beyond in Montserrat. Rev Canon Reid heeded the calling of God on his Life and transformed the Bronx by extension St Luke’s Episcopal Church, whilst he served as Rector for some 20 years. He has since returned to Antigua to continue the work of the Lord. We wish both of them success as they continue to work for the public good. We wish our Centenarian a continued long and healthy life. The Society is truly honored to have our honorees travel from overseas to receive their awards, for that we are truly thankful.

Attendees came as far away from Canada, Montserrat, Boston and Antigua to celebrate our Honorees. Our Centenarian could not be present, but that is understandable. This only highlights the respect and admiration held by others for those who unselfishly give of their time and resources to make this world a better place. Hence our Honorees are chosen each year - Mother of the Year (Montserratian by birth or adoption) must have “Excellent parenting qualities, Personal achievements, Community Outreach Involvement and be a Role Model” Special Honoree must, of course, be a Montserratian by definition of a Montserratian according to the Laws of Montserrat. Candidates must have excelled in their field, be a role model and preferably performed some community work, may be church based, job related community work or general community work.

As Chair of the Mother’s Day Extravaganza event, I want to thank you all sincerely for your participation in this year’s successful event. Special thanks to the Committee members: Malika Barber, Co-chair, Mary Kirnon, Maudelyn Johnson and Llewellyn White, President. Special congratulations and thanks to all the members and friends who sold dinner tickets, some twenty plus, those who are always faithful with their Patrons page, and their advertisement. Also thanks to each and everyone who faithfully patronize the event in your own way Everyone and every effort is greatly appreciated, without which there would be no Mother’s Day Extravaganza.

We are also asking that our members please be kind to check out our advertisers who so willingly patronize us. Please refer to their advertisement in the Souvenir Journal. They all offer excellent service.

As we begin to celebrate our Centennial 2014, we ask that you continue to be more responsive and to be a part of this great historical Celebration.

Again grateful thanks to my dear sisters, brothers, friends, and advertisers. May God richly bless each and everyone.
