City's Caribbean communities cooking up something special for Mother's Day

Mother's Day, the annual appreciation of moms of all ages, is being commemorated in the city's Caribbean communities through a number of events, including the Montserrat Progressive Society's Mother's Day Extravaganza

a new version of the annual Mother's Day Caribbean Festival, the multifaceted "Guyanese Women of Courage and Vision" affair and stress-relieving spa specials at the Hibiscus Health and Wellness Center.
 
The 97-year-old Montserrat Progressive Society of New York is hosting its 20th annual Mother's Day Extravaganza at 2 p.m. next Sunday at Villa Barone Manor, 737 Throgs Neck Expressway, in the Bronx, according to association President Llewellyn White.
 
This year's honorees at the events are educator and humanitarian Elizabeth Romeo, entrepreneur and community leader John Everton Wyke and Dorine O'Garro, who's being recognized for services to the society.
